Work-Life Balance

Today starts a new chapter in my career. I’m starting a new job in a different industry. I’m excited for this new opportunity. But while I’m going to be working full time, I also have a lot of other things going on outside of that as well. I know that work-life balance is going to be key to my success.

Our candle business is about to be back up and running! I’m also trying to be consistent with blog posts and social media content. Besides full time work and two side hustles, we are still getting settled back into and involved in our church, my hubby is working a full time job and an additional part time job. We are trying to maintain healthy/active lifestyles, and of course, spending lots of time with our pup Bella. And then there is the normal cooking, cleaning, and general home upkeep. Work-life balance can be really hard to find and maintain. Here are a few things I’m doing to make it happen.

Schedule

I’ve learned that it’s really important for me to have a general schedule that I work around. This is something that changes in different seasons of life. Today I sat down and wrote out a general schedule I will use on most weeks and weekends. I always keep in mind that things may not always go as planned. In general this is what I try to stick to and make happen each week.

Plan

Once I figure out a basic schedule for the season of life I’m in, I use that to really plan out my week. Usually Sunday afternoons are a great time for me to sit down and think through the week ahead. I use that time to meal plan as well. One tool that I’m pretty sure I would die without it is my Simplified Planner. Anything I have going on gets written on the monthly calendar and then I block the time out on my daily pages. I also use that time to be sure I’m on track for content for my blog and my candle business. My planning time each week helps me to check in on my goals and my responsibilities and figure out how to accomplish it all.

Communicate

If you’re married, it’s super important to communicate about your week ahead of time. I’ve found that it’s important to communicate with my hubby about what I have going on and what he has going on as well. It’s important to take a little time each week to regroup together and think through what we need to do together to make the next week happen.

Accountability

In addition to communicating with your spouse, I find it really helps me to share with him what my goals are each day and week so he can hold me accountable. If he knows that I have a bunch of candles to make and I’m sitting on the couch watching TV, he can gently remind me that I had goals in mind. Accountability can really help you stay motivated. If you’re not married I encourage you to ask your roommate, friend, or family member to help keep you accountable to keep making progress on your goals and dreams.

Self-care

Now that I’ve talked about how to get all the things done, let’s not forget about taking care of yourself. Self-care is super important. There are certain things I do to take care of myself. For example, Sunday nights are my night to do a face mask. I love doing face masks because feel relaxed and my skin looks great after doing them! I also love a good mani/pedi. While I don’t get them done often, but when I really feel the need to do something nice for myself, it’s my go-to.

Colossians 3:23 is a great reminder of what God says about working hard. “Whatever you so, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men”. This reminds me that even in this busy season, where both Austin and I are working hard at our day jobs, we both have other things that we are working on as well and this isn’t a time in our lives where we can be lazy. I want to do everything I’m doing for the Lord.

It’s important to work hard at my day job and bring glory to His name through that. My blog is also something that I want to do well on because it gives me a really direct way to talk about my relationship with Him and share what I’m learning. My candles are my creative passion. I love how a sweet scent can change someone’s mood or how a candle can really enhance the atmosphere of someone’s home. There is nothing better than bringing joy to people through my candles and helping people find the perfect gift for someone they care about. All the things I am currently blessed to be doing are important. I want to do them all well for God’s glory.
